Putt Like
A Lady.
A VR experience at the Chevron Championship LPGA tournament immersing guests in a surreal journey through a pro female golfer's subconscious — based on stories from players about the challenges they face on tour.
At The Chevron Championship, an LPGA tournament in The Woodlands, TX, Accenture Song presented a VR experience that immersed guests in a surreal journey through a pro female golfer's subconscious — based on stories from the players about the challenges they face on tour.
We invited unknowing participants into a seemingly normal VR putt-putt challenge. Once they started playing, the challenges of being a female athlete started manifesting themselves in the game, making it harder and harder to play.
Every detail of the space — from the physical layout to the docents leading guests through the experience — had to add emphasis to the dual-nature of the message.
We spoke with pro golfers on the LPGA tour. Amy Olson said: "Can you even imagine the pressure standing over a drive with OB right and water left thinking, I just put $4,000 on a credit card for this week? That is not a sustainable way to play golf."
Using custom-built dynamic lighting, strategic set design, and scripted-actor docents, we transformed a perfect day on the course into a surreal, technicolor trip that provided room for reflection on the emotional impact of the message.
Guests were ushered into a hallway framed by inspirational posters, then into the playroom — a minimal rendition of a golf course awash with the greens and blues of a perfect sunny day. After the VR experience, guests removed their headsets to find the perfect day transformed into a surreal dreamscape, with multicoloured lights tracing the topography of the putting green.
